Expanding your market outside of the states is critical to growing your business and gaining countless new customers. The only problem is the paperwork that comes with each order.
Anyone who’s exported a shipment from the U.S. knows that filing an Electronic Export Information (EEI) can be one of the most time-consuming and stressful parts of international shipping. After all, even a small mistake can get a package tied up in customs.
The solution? Automate the EEI filing process with EasyPost.
EasyPost makes exporting simpler than ever
EasyPost customers can leave the headache of export documentation behind with the Automated Export System (AES). With EasyPost, U.S. exporters can automatically submit Electronic Export Information (EEI) as required by law, eliminating the need to manually enter data or pay carriers a premium to do it on your behalf.
EasyPost’s AES offers:
- Filing-as-a-service: Setup is easy—no portal requirements, no additional hardware, no VPNs, no security audits; we do all this on your behalf, and you can access via a secure JSON API (or integrated into your shipping system). Once your registration is complete, you can file on behalf of any additional EINs you have POA for, with no additional setup required.
- Real-time compliance checks: We will check for common errors such as invalid Harmonized Codes, wrong Units Of Measure, missing required information, etc. before submitting to Customs and Border Protection.
- Smart data mapping and integration: Connect directly to your ERP, TMS, or other shipping tools to pull shipment details without manual touchpoints.
- Instant filing status and visibility: Responses from our API are real-time; you receive your pre-departure ITN (filing proof number) in seconds—no batches, no delays.
- Single-shot shipping: If using an integrated EasyPost Enterprise system, the filing can be made in series with the process of carrier rating and label creation; no additional steps for your warehouse operators. Integrated carrier modules provide needed details such as Port Of Export and Conveyance codes needed to file. Choose from one of several reporting formats to make a paper or electronic receipt for proof-of-filing if you need it.
- Support for all known license types (USML, DDTC, Kimberley Process, etc) with real-time verification (if applicable) from USCBP.
How to get started
To use EasyPost’s AES API, you’ll need to meet these requirements:
- Complete the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “Letter of Intent” (LOI) to authorize EasyPost for filings on their Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) via Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).
- Complete any additional steps required by the U.S. CBP after submitting the LOI.
- Have an EasyPost account.
- Contact your customer success manager to enable the AES API.*
*Access to the AES API is enabled for individual API keys, meaning sub-accounts do not inherit this functionality and must be enabled separately.
