Logistics Became Challenging After an Acquisition

Fullscript, already on a steady growth trajectory since its inception, merged with Natural Partners in 2018 and began bringing all operations under the Fullscript umbrella. The process included integrating Natural Partners’ fulfillment operations, which has been managed by a 3PL with Fullscript’s in-house logistics operations.

Dylan Trebels, sr. product manager at Fullscript, noted that about two or three months after consolidating everything into a single distribution network, their shipping volumes were too high for their existing logistics systems to handle. To solve the problem, Fullscript decided to upgrade to an enterprise-scaled warehouse management system (WMS) and shipping solution that could meet demand and scale up as they continued to grow.

How EasyPost Enterprise Helped

Fullscript chose the HighJump WMS solution, integrated with EasyPost Enterprise Shipping (formerly known as InfoShip). The team selected EasyPost Enterprise for its advanced functionality, flexible design, and scalability to grow with the company’s surging order volume.

“We wanted more control over who we shipped with and when,” said Trebels. “What we’re doing today is not going to be what we’re doing a year or two from now, so we need the ability to be more flexible without having to go through a lengthy customization process.”

After completing the technical specification document, the Fullscript and EasyPost Enterprise teams focused on the implementation and configuration of the interface and solution. Although COVID-19 restrictions prevented the EasyPost Enterprise team from working on-site, the implementation process proceeded without any delays. With weekly scheduled calls and a shared Slack channel, the team accomplished everything 100% remotely: design, testing, implementation, and even go live.

Better Shipping, Now and in the Future

With EasyPost Enterprise Shipping’s robust rate shopping, Fullscript can now compare carrier services based on times in transit, something their legacy system couldn’t do. As a result, they’ve shifted many deliveries from 2nd day air to ground service. As Trebels points out, “The orders still get there on time, but by shipping them via ground service instead of air, we’re saving money.”

Working with UPS, Fullscript has been able to track, calculate, and offset the environmental impact of their shipping. Trebels is proud to say, “[Fullscript has] seen a 20% decrease in our carbon footprint.”

In addition to saving money (and the environment), EasyPost Enterprise helps Fullscript save time. The system prints shipping labels at sub-second speed, resulting in a huge productivity boost. Label printing time has gone from 4 seconds to less than 1 second per label, saving over 1 million seconds—or 278 hours—each month.

Trebels is confident that as Fullscript’s volumes continue to grow, EasyPost Enterprise will remain an ideal partner, with the systems now facilitating change instead of blocking it.
