How will you be affected by the 2022 parcel rate increases?
One of the most critical aspects of running a business is understanding your costs. Even a slight change can have big repercussions. As a shipper, you have undoubtedly become accustomed to change and being flexible. One constant thing, however, is the shipping rate increases that come every year.
Nothing has changed this year in that all of the big shippers will be implementing rate increases. The best way to be prepared is to understand these increases early and know how to communicate this to your customers to help set proper expectations for the coming year.
Below you will find explanations of how each major shipper is changing its rates for 2022.
FedEx - Effective increase date of Jan. 3, 2022
Across all small parcel services offered by FedEx (Express and Ground), there will be an average rate increase of 5.9%.

UPS - Effective increase date Dec. 26, 2021
Keeping in line with the last 11 years, UPS will increase their rates the same as FedEx. This means there will be a rate increase of 5.9% for UPS small parcel products as well.

USPS - Effective increase date Jan. 9, 2022
The USPS has just announced an increase to several product lines. Both the Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express services will be increasing prices by approximately 3.1%. Flat rate offerings will also be seeing an increase detailed below:

USPS has earlier stated that they were not going to raise rates until July of 2022. So another rate increase this coming year could still be announced.
DHL - Effective increase date Jan. 1, 2022
DHL will also be keeping in line with the likes of UPS and FedEx, and increasing their small parcel shipping rates by 5.9%.
