Protect Your EasyPost Account With Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
by EasyPost
Shipping platforms like EasyPost store sensitive customer and business information, including names, addresses, and payment details. Strong account security is crucial to protect this data from hackers and cybercriminals.
EasyPost has recently released multi-factor authentication (MFA) to help you better safeguard your data—we’ll explain everything you need to know in this article.
What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to provide two or more different types of authentication to verify their identity when logging into their account. This greatly improves security, as passwords alone can easily be compromised or guessed.
How does MFA work?
Signing into your EasyPost account using MFA only takes a few extra seconds (and it’s well worth it for the increased security). After you enter your password, the system will prompt you to verify your identity through email, phone call, or text. Once you enter your verification code, you’ll officially be signed in!
Benefits of multi-factor authentication
MFA protects your account from unauthorized access and ensures compliance with data security regulations.
- Enhanced account security. MFA requires multiple verification factors, reducing the chance of unauthorized access even if your password is compromised.
- Compliance and regulatory requirements. MFA is the gold standard for data security and allows you to be compliant with the latest regulatory recommendations and requirements for data security.
How do I enable MFA for my EasyPost account?
MFA can be enabled for both the EasyPost dashboard and the Forge dashboard. Please see the steps below or our Help Center to get started.
- Ensure your phone number is up to date and includes your area code under “User Info”
- International numbers may also be used if the calling code is included in your phone number. By default, EasyPost will use “+1” if no calling code is present
- Navigate to the correct menu based on your dashboard
- EasyPost: “Users” menu under “Account Settings”
- Forge: “Members” menu
- Select “Enable 2FA for All Users” under “2FA Settings”
- Upon your next login, you’ll be prompted to enter a one-time password (OTP) based on your verification method choice. Every time you log in, you’ll need to enter a new OTP
