EasyPost Label Retention Changes

by James Brown

As part of our general security and data privacy stance and on behalf of our users, EasyPost will be dropping the period for which we retain the images of postage labels that you purchase on our platform. Starting on April 2, 2020, we will be automatically deleting these images after 180 days, down from our previous retention policy of 3 years.

This will not affect the Shipment object in our API, but will only affect the actual image file. When you fetch a Shipment object older than 180 days, the label_url field will now be null, and the underlying image file will have been automatically deleted.

Our log analysis indicates that this should affect a vanishingly-small percentage of our users; however, if you need to use images more than 180 days after they are purchased, you can download them and host them in your own storage environment.

All of our data retention policies can always be found in the article How Long is Data Retained. If you have any questions, please contact our support team.
