USPS Deploys Counterfeit Postage and Fraud Prevention Measures on August 1, 2024
by EasyPost
Each year USPS loses millions of dollars from counterfeit postage and fraudulent labels. Starting August 1, 2024, USPS will enforce new security measures to combat fraudulent shipping labels.
Before we jump into the details of this initiative, EasyPost shippers can rest easy knowing that they do not need to take any action for their USPS shipments. All USPS shipping labels created by EasyPost are genuine and properly filed to ensure no interceptions or hiccups.
What is USPS doing to protect the mailstream?
USPS will validate payment documentation for shipping labels in real time. Any package that is unmanifested at the time of the first USPS scan will be intercepted and disposed of. These packages will not be reimbursed or re-enter the mailstream at any time.
Do I need to take any action to ensure my packages don’t get intercepted?
USPS shipping labels
EasyPost shippers can continue to print and ship USPS labels with no changes or interruptions. We are already in full compliance with USPS’s security measures.

For shippers who purchase USPS labels from other platforms, we recommend contacting your provider to ensure compliance with this new measure.
DHL eCommerce, OSM, and Asendia labels with USPS last-mile delivery
Shippers leveraging other carrier services with USPS last-mile delivery need to ensure their packages are manifested and pass on documentation to their carrier of choice. We recommend following these guidelines to avoid interception:
- Transmit accurate and complete postage manifest files to your first-mile carrier (DHL eCommerce, OSM, Asendia).
- Submit your package to its intended first-mile carrier (not USPS).
- Ensure the shipping label is clear and scannable.
Other carrier labels with USPS last-mile delivery
If you’re shipping with any other carrier label that uses USPS for last-mile delivery, we recommend you contact your carrier for more information.
If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please contact your carrier’s support team, our Support team, or your dedicated Customer Success Manager. USPS also has a public FAQ document here.
Please remember that all EasyPost USPS shipping labels are fully compliant, and you should experience no changes in your shipping flow.
