2018 Rate Increases

With a new year comes new carrier rates. See what USPS, FedEx and UPS have in store for 2018.

USPS

USPS rate increases will take effect January 21. Luckily USPS rates are not increasing by a significant amount for 2018:

FedEx

As of January 1, new FedEx rate increases went into effect for various services. FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery all increased by 4.9 percent. FedEx Freight rates for series based services also rose by the same amount.Fees for FedEx One Rate also increased by an average of 3.5 percent, and FedEx retail rates rose as well. UPS

Certain changes concerning UPS rates went into effect December 24, 2017. A rate increase of 4.9 percent was applied to UPS ground, air and international services. U.S. domestic packages that exceed 96 inches in length or that have a combined length plus girth dimension of 130 inches are subject to the large package surcharge. Also, the weight devisor has changed to 139 for U.S. domestic, Alaska and Hawaii packages that are less than or equal to one cubic foot in overall dimensions and are subject to daily rates.

Other UPS rates that will go into effect July 8, 2018 include a $90 fee for the large package surcharge to domestic packages delivered to a residential address, and an additional handling surcharge of $19 for domestic packages that exceed an actual weight limit of 70 pounds.
