Bolster Security and Improve Performance: EasyPost Now Supports FedEx Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
by EasyPost
At EasyPost, we're committed to providing the most secure and efficient shipping solutions.
That's why we're excited to announce the official launch of FedEx Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) support! This new feature adds an essential layer of protection to your FedEx account, safeguarding your shipments and data.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
MFA is a security enhancement that requires you to provide two or more verification factors, such as an email address or phone number, to gain access to your account.
Think of it as a double-check to ensure that only authorized individuals can access your FedEx account through EasyPost. This "second form of identification" significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
Why is FedEx MFA Important for you?
- Enhanced security: Protect your valuable account and shipment information from potential threats.
- Prevent unauthorized access: Rest easy knowing your FedEx account is secure against malicious actors.
- Industry best practices: Stay compliant with current data security standards.
- Access to FedEx REST API: Completing the MFA flow makes you eligible for the more performant FedEx REST API, a significant upgrade from the current SOAP integration.
Important deadlines for FedEx API changes:
We strongly encourage you to complete the MFA process before October 31, 2025, to recognize performance benefits by moving to REST in advance of peak. FedEx is phasing out their SOAP APIs in March 2026.
Completing MFA sooner ensures quality assurance and uninterrupted FedEx business continuity for your operations going into the new year.
This is a quick, one-time process that should only take a few minutes to complete.
How to authenticate your account:
You have three convenient options to enable FedEx MFA.
Option 1: Authenticate via the EasyPost API
- Make an Address Validation Request.
- Specify your preferred verification method (email, phone call, SMS, or invoice).
- Enter the 2-factor code sent to you via your chosen method.
Option 2: Authenticate via the EasyPost UI
- Log in to your EasyPost account and navigate to Account Settings.
- Select the Carriers tab.
- Locate your FedEx account and click Update.
- Follow the prompts on the FedEx authorization page and select your PIN validation type.
- You will need to accept the End User License Agreement.
- You'll have options for PIN validation: email, SMS, phone call, or invoice number. Please ensure you have access to the email, phone number, or an invoice number for authentication.
- Once you receive the PIN, enter it into the designated field.
- Upon successful completion, you'll receive a confirmation message that your carrier account has been updated.
Do you have multiple users for a single FedEx account?
For customers with multiple users sharing a single FedEx account, a bypass flow is available to avoid repeated Multi-Factor Authentication.
Option 3: Enable the bypass process:
- Contact FedEx Directly: If you're interested in the bypass flow, please reach out to FedEx to enable it.
- FedEx will enroll you in the bypass flow and notify you upon completion.
- You'll need your nine-digit FedEx Account number to enroll.
- You will have 7 days to complete the Address Verification call to finalize FedEx Multi-Factor authentication.
- If you miss the 7-day window, you'll need to re-request bypass approval.
- EasyPost Support: If you encounter any issues with this flow, please contact support@easypost.com or your Customer Success Manager (CSM). They will work with the EasyPost FedEx Product lead to escalate the issue with FedEx.
We strongly encourage all our customers to set up MFA to protect their accounts and shipments. For any questions, please contact our support team or review our detailed FedEx MFA support article.
